## Summary

話說前朝南直隸松江府華亭縣，有一個秀才姓昌名全，表字天佑，他 祖上原是薊州軍籍出身，因父親曾舉過孝廉，遂入籍松江。這昌全自 小兒就進了學，後來父母雙亡，家資日漸涼薄，止遺下薄田數畝，俱叫 一個家人昌儉管理，收租以供薪水讀書之費。其妻杜氏，甚是賢淑，夫 妻兩個過日頗稱宜室宜家。到了四十上下，方生一子，取名昌谷，表字 若虛。這昌谷生得面如春雪，體若秋山，繈褓中便乖巧異常，到了六歲 ，昌全恐怕從個俗先生，誤了他，遂帶在身邊自教。這昌谷天性聰明， 一教即知，知了便能，背誦不忘。到了七歲，四書俱已讀完。昌全見他 資性不凡，就與他講究作文，至於詩詞歌賦，並未教他，他便出口成章。
