## Summary

Ai primi d’aprile del 1850, una di quelle bizzarre navi che i chinesi chiamavano giunche o meglio _ts’ao ch’wan_, di forme rozze e pesanti, colla prua arrotondata e fornita di due grandi cubie[1] che danno a quei velieri l’aspetto di mostri marini, essendo dipinti in modo che quelle aperture sembrano due occhi smisurati, colla poppa larga e molto rialzata e l’alta alberatura fornita di grandi vele, navigava lentamente e con molta precauzione, lungo le coste occidentali della terra di Carpentaria.
