Bartolomé de las Casas, que hoy damos á luz por vez primera, tal y como su autor la escribió, consta de tres partes ó Décadas, en otros tantos tomos, y sólo alcanza al año de 1520. Empezóla en 1552 cuando ya tenia 78 años, concluyéndola en 1561, cinco ántes de su muerte.
