# Vistas of New York Author: Matthews, Brander, 1852-1929 Genre: Category: Short Stories Language: English License: Public domain Source: https://www.gutenberg.org/ebooks/39434 Amazon editions: https://www.amazon.com/s?k=Vistas+of+New+York+Matthews&tag=cyberlibrar00-20 ## Summary In one of those romances in which Hawthorne caught the color and interpreted the atmosphere of his native New England, he declared that "destiny, it may be, the most skillful of stage managers, seldom chooses to arrange its scenes and carry forward its drama without securing the presence of at least one calm observer." It is the character of this calm observer that the writer has imagined himself to be assuming in the dozen little sketches and stories garnered here into a volume. They are snapshots or flashlights of one or another of the shifting aspects of this huge and sprawling metropolis of ours. ## Chapters - [Part 2](https://www.cyberlibrary.org/en/books/vistas-of-new-york-39434/chapters/2/index.md) - [Part 5](https://www.cyberlibrary.org/en/books/vistas-of-new-york-39434/chapters/5/index.md) - [Part 8](https://www.cyberlibrary.org/en/books/vistas-of-new-york-39434/chapters/8/index.md) - [Part 7](https://www.cyberlibrary.org/en/books/vistas-of-new-york-39434/chapters/7/index.md) - [Part 11](https://www.cyberlibrary.org/en/books/vistas-of-new-york-39434/chapters/11/index.md) - [Part 4](https://www.cyberlibrary.org/en/books/vistas-of-new-york-39434/chapters/4/index.md) - [Part 3](https://www.cyberlibrary.org/en/books/vistas-of-new-york-39434/chapters/3/index.md) - [Part 6](https://www.cyberlibrary.org/en/books/vistas-of-new-york-39434/chapters/6/index.md) - [Part 1](https://www.cyberlibrary.org/en/books/vistas-of-new-york-39434/chapters/1/index.md) - [Part 9](https://www.cyberlibrary.org/en/books/vistas-of-new-york-39434/chapters/9/index.md) - [Part 10](https://www.cyberlibrary.org/en/books/vistas-of-new-york-39434/chapters/10/index.md) - [Part 12](https://www.cyberlibrary.org/en/books/vistas-of-new-york-39434/chapters/12/index.md)
