🖙 The asterisk * indicates that in cases where it is affixed, pre-payment of the Letter Postage is optional. In all other cases pre-payment is required to secure the forwarding of the Letter. No letter can be registered unless both postage and registration fee are fully prepaid.
[16] Book packets for the West Indies can only be sent via the United Kingdom, the rate being, under 2 ozs. 6 cts., 2 ozs. to 4 ozs. 13 cts., over 4 ozs. 25 cts. the ½ lb. or fraction of ½ lb.
[17] If specially addressed “_Via Royal Mail Steamer from Boston_,” (_i. e._ the fortnightly Cunard Packet from Boston to Liverpool _Via_ Halifax,) a Letter must be prepaid as follows:
For Newfoundland, } 12½ cents. For Nova-Scotia, }
Books cannot be forwarded by this route.
[18] If addressed from office of publication to subscribers, may be forwarded on pre-payment of the commuted rate applicable to subscribers within this Province, or, singly at a ½ cent each, at option of the Publisher.
POSTAL RATES TO GREAT BRITAIN, BY CANADIAN OCEAN STEAMERS.
LETTERS.
For a Letter not exceeding ½ oz. 12½ cents. ” exceeding ” and not exceeding 1 oz. 25 ” ” ” 1 oz. and not ” 2 ozs. 50 ”
and so on increasing two rates of postage for each additional ounce.
Letters for the United Kingdom must be prepaid,--or they will be charged a fine of Six pence Sterling on delivery.
_Registration of Letters for English Mails._
For Registration of a Letter for the United Kingdom--12½ cents as a Registration Fee, in addition to the Postage. For British Colonies and Foreign Countries see table.
_Both the postage charge and Registration fee must in all cases be prepaid._
NEWSPAPERS.
Newspapers from office of publication to subscribers in the United Kingdom may be forwarded on pre-payment of the commuted rate applicable to subscribers within the Province, or singly, at a ½ cent each, at the option of the Publisher.
Transient Newspapers must be prepaid one cent each.
BOOK POSTAGE.
For a Packet not exceeding 4 ozs. in weight 7 cents. ” exceeding 4 ozs. and not exceeding ½ lb. 12½ ” ” ” ½ lb. and ” 1 lb. 25 ” ” ” 1 lb. and ” 1½ lb. 37½ ” ” ” 1½ lb. and ” 2 lbs. 50 ”
and so on, increasing 12½ cents for each additional half pound or fraction of a half pound.
POSTAL RATES TO GREAT BRITAIN, BY BRITISH (CUNARD) MAIL STEAMERS.
LETTERS.
For a Letter not exceeding ½ oz. 17 cents. ” exceeding ½ oz. and not exceeding 1 oz. 34 ” ” ” 1 oz. ” 2 ozs. 68 ”
--and so on.
Regulations in respect to pre-payment and to Registration of Letters are the same as those applicable to correspondence by the Canadian Line of Steamers.
NEWSPAPERS.
Regulations in respect to pre-payment the same as for Canadian Steamers: Papers, however, sent or received by the Cunard Packet Mails are chargeable ON DELIVERY with two cents additional postage--to cover the American transit charge.
BOOKS.
Book Packets are not forwarded by the Cunard Line of Steamers.
🖙 Pre-payment of Postage should, whenever practicable, be made by means of Postage Stamp.
